Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar is a Private University created under State Govt. Private University Act (i.e.: Lovely Professional University Act 2005). It is a residential university which impart education in professional courses.

It was established in 2001 as Lovely Institutes at Chaheru on the Jalandhar-Phagwara National Highway, and was recognized as university by UGC in 2006 via Notification No.F.9-10/2006 (CPP-1). Since its early inception, LPU has been in controversies over its university status. There were also rumors regarding the cancellation of its affiliation with UGC.

As a Professional courses university, LPU now provides 60 professional courses through, regular, distance and online modes. And, has now got more than 8000 students by its unique offering of superb infrastructure and tie-ups with reputed foreign universities.

According to recent LPU statement, it has become the second largest institute of professional studies in India after Benaras Hindu University after enrolling more than 8,000 regular students.

Further, management at Lovely Institutes (sister concern of LPU and a division of Lovely Group) has decided to disaffiliate from PTU and offer LPU affiliated courses in its campuses from 2008 batch onwards.
